OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Illinois State Police took an armed suspect into custody this morning following at 14-hour standoff in Olive Branch, but police aren't yet releasing the man's name.
Police responded to a call of a man barricaded inside a home at 222538 West Dr. in Olive Branch at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. The Alexander County Sheriff's Department was the first to respond, but the Illinois State Police and the Tamms, Ill., and Ullin, Ill., police departments were called in to assist.
A man was inside the home, and he was armed, police said, but they didn't confirm whether or not the man was alone. The man was arrested at 7:10 a.m. today, but police weren't saying where he was taken to. A hostage negotiator did speak with the man, but an Illinois State Police spokesperson said the move is standard procedure in situations in which someone who's armed has barricaded himself inside a building.
