The Cape Girardeau Police Department is implementing special traffic arrangements for the SEMO District Fair to assure smooth and safe traffic flow into and out of the Arena Park area, according to a news release.
"No parking" signs were placed around the park Friday with enforcement scheduled to begin Saturday at 10 a.m. Any vehicles parked in the no-parking or restricted-parking areas will be towed away at the owner's expense and a ticket will be issue, police said.
Also on Friday, no-parking signs were placed in Capaha Park, along N. West End Boulevard and Perry Avenue to restrict parking for the fair parade on Monday. The parade is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Capaha Park will be closed starting at 6 a.m. and only vehicles used in the parade will be allowed inside the park.
Police said parade participants can be dropped off at the intersection of West End Boulevard and Normal Street at the park entrance. West End Boulevard will be closed from Broadway to Normal Street to allow the parade participants to gather.
Broadway west of West End Boulevard and Kingshighway between Broadway and Cape Rock Drive will be closed during the parade. Broadview Street will also be closed from Spartech Drive north to the entrance of Arena Park during the parade and for a short time after the parade. Southbound traffic on Kingshighway will be detoured west on Hopper Road.
