The 34-year-old man police say lured a Cape Girardeau boy to Kansas for sex may face more felony charges.
Archillis Boglosa, a noncitizen Philippine immigrant who resides in Royal Palm Beach on a work visa, remains in the Palm Beach County Jail, awaiting extradition to Cape Girardeau County on a felony warrant for enticement of a child.
But he may soon face more serious state and federal felony child sex and exploitation charges in Johnson County, Kan., where he allegedly had sex with the boy at a relative's home in Gardner, according to Cape Girardeau police detective Darren Estes.
According to Estes, a Johnson County detective spoke with a local U.S. attorney, who expressed interest in prosecuting the case. In addition, the Johnson County District Attorney's office will likely press charges, he said.
"These charges will be equivalent to two class A felonies here," Estes said.
The 13-year-old boy was reported as a runaway by his mother Jan. 11, Estes said. He called home three days later.
"He called her on Wednesday morning, when he got to the bus station, and told her he was on his way back," Estes said.
According to Estes, Boglosa was in Gardner when he contacted the boy in an America On-line chat room Jan. 10 and sent the boy his cell phone number.
The teen stole a van and drove to the St. Louis airport, where a plane ticket to Kansas City had been purchased for him by Boglosa, Estes wrote in the statement.
"This was the fourth car he's stolen," Estes said.
Boglosa picked up the teen at a Kansas City airport and drove him to Gardner, where they eventually engaged in sex at Boglosa's sister's home, according to the arrest warrant. He later bought the boy's bus ticket home, Estes said.
Doesn't appear traumatized
When the boy returned home, he didn't tell his mother about the sex, initially lied about how he met the man and does not appear to be traumatized by the events, Estes said.
Because the boy stole a van and has lately exhibited behavior problems, he remains at the Juvenile Detention Center in Cape Girardeau, awaiting a bed at a Division of Youth Services facility in St. Louis, Estes said.
As of late Tuesday, jail officials at Palm Beach County, Fla., did not know whether Boglosa had waived his right to an extradition hearing during a court appearance that morning.
Boglosa has no known criminal record. He remains in custody in lieu of a $50,000 cash-only bail. No computers have been seized as evidence, but that remains another likely possibility, Estes said.
"They'll want to search them to see if there were other victims," he said.
