The Area Wide United Way and Special Olympics were recruiting teams of 20 to attempt to pull a 155,000-lb. Federal Express Boeing 727 for a distance of 12 feet. The event was a fund raiser for the organizations.

Kristi Thurman, projects assistant at the regional airport, said perhaps scheduling on the same day as the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event and a lack of understanding about the plane pull contributed to the low interest.
