Less than two weeks remain for local entrepreneurs to enter a contest that could give them a chance to win use of space inside West Park Mall and advertising space in the Southeast Missourian.

Announced on April 13, the "You're in Business Contest" is open to residents 18 years and older of Cape Girardeau and surrounding counties. Contestants have until May 11 to submit a business plan of 250 words or less.

Visit the mall customer service booth to complete an entry. The contest is sponsored by West Park Mall and the Southeast Missourian.

Susan Godorov, spokesperson for Centro Property Groups that owns West Park Mall, said a few entries have been received but that the mall is looking for many more. "The value of the contest is not only in the six months free rent but also in the built-in audience at the mall, the other perks that are part of the prize and the support of the mall community," she said.

"We are confident that the momentum will build over the next two weeks," Godorov said.

Those with the top 20 plans will submit a 20-page business plan that includes charts, appendices, financial data and graphs. The top three winners will then advance to a final competition in July that will consist of an oral presentation and question-and-answer session by the competition's judges.
