Nominating petitions are available for four positions on the Cape Girardeau City Council.
The mayor's office and Wards 1, 2 and 6 are up for four-year terms.
Ward 3 is open for an unexpired term after the recent resignation of Councilman Jack Rickard.
Individuals who want to become candidates for any of the positions must be nominated by petition. The nominating petitions as well as acceptance of nomination forms are available at the city manager's office at Cape Girardeau City Hall, 401 Independence.
Nominating petitions must be signed by at least 50 registered voters who are eligible to vote for the proposed candidate.
In the case of council members, candidates must resident in the ward they seek election from. In addition, the petition signers must be registered to vote within the individual ward in which the candidate is seeking election.
The mayor is elected on a citywide basis. Petitions for mayoral candidates must be signed by voters registered in the Cape Girardeau city limits.
The filing period for council and mayoral elections begins Nov. 6 and closes Nov. 25.
The election will be held April 7.
