Petals and Bows, a florist shop at 828 Broadway, is observing its fifth anniversary this month.

Co-owners Mary Keller, Janice Stratton and Leona Shaw opened the business at 221 Independence in July 1987.

After more than two years in operation, the owners moved the shop to 828 Broadway in October 1989. Keller said the new building was bigger with more showroom and display space.

Keller said Petals and Bows specializes in floral arrangements. "We do a lot of custom design work," she said, "and special orders in dried and silk flowers.

"We do designs for special home arrangements, weddings, anniversaries or any special events."

The shop also carries several gift items such as baskets, pottery and antique bobbins, she said.

"We'll come to people's homes and tell them what they need, as far as floral arrangements," Keller said. "We'll tell them the style that would look good in their home.

In honor of the fifth anniversary, the florist shop is offering free labor on any special order taken July Monday through Saturday.

Petals and Bows is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
