PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The owner of a Perryville wrecker service was killed Saturday while working on a tractor-trailer.

Michael Schmidt Sr., 57, was trying to jack up the rear wheels of a tractor-trailer when it ran over him, Perry County Coroner Herb Miller said Sunday.

It was not clear what caused the accident.

"He was killed trying to jack up the back of the last four wheels on the tractor-trailer, and something happened -- we don't know what -- but the tractor-trailer wheels ran over him," Miller said.

According to his obituary, Schmidt was the owner-operator of Winkler Wrecker Service in Perryville.
