A Perryville, Mo., man was charged with driving while intoxicated after his two passengers suffered serious injuries Thursday in a single-vehicle accident in Madison County.
David Powell, 21, and Todd Moll, 19, both of Perryville were taken to Mineral Area Hospital in Park Hills, Mo., with serious injuries after the 10 p.m. accident on Route J, three miles east of state Highway 72.
The driver, George Johnson, 23, was taken to the same hospital with moderate injuries.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Johnson's vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck an embankment. Johnson also was issued summonses for careless and imprudent driving and failure to display valid plates.
In a two-vehicle accident Thursday near Poplar Bluff, Mo., 48-year-old Donald Sturgeon of Sikeston, Mo., received moderate injuries. He was taken to Three Rivers Hospital South Campus in Poplar Bluff.
The accident occurred on U.S. 60 at Route NN one mile east of Poplar Bluff at 1:43 p.m. The driver of the other vehicle, Chad Reed, 16, of Poplar Bluff was not injured.
The patrol said the accident occurred when Reed's vehicle pulled into the path of Sturgeon's vehicle.
