PIKE COUNTY, Ill. -- A 43-year-old Perryville, Mo., man suffered serious injuries Thursday afternoon when the motorcycle he was driving struck a deer at mile marker 19 on Interstate 72 in Pike County.
Timothy R. Underwood was listed in critical condition in a St. Louis hospital at noon Friday.
According to Illinois State Police in Pittsfield, Underwood was driving west at 12:27 p.m. when a deer entered the road from the south, according to police. He was thrown from his motorcycle after the collision.
A state police spokesman said Underwood was conscious and alert at the scene. He was taken by helicopter to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Police said no charges will be filed in connection with the accident.
