PERRYVILLE -- Most election results here were predictable, because five of seven races in Perry County involved only one candidate.
Nevertheless, voter turnout of 3,954 was above average, said Randy Taylor, Perry County clerk. He attributed it to three school-related propositions.
The vote represented a turnout of 35.5 percent of registered voters. Normally, only 10 or 12 percent of voters vote on April ballots, he said.
In Perryville's school board race, three men were vying for two seats. They went to Dennis Martin, with 1,892 votes, and Jim Bauwens, with 2.337 votes. Finishing third was Jim W. Martin, with 1,657 votes.
Thomas A. Wesolek got 2,791 votes running unopposed for a one-year term on the school board.
Several candidates ran unopposed. Robert J. Miget received 1,511 votes to remain Perryville's mayor. City Collector Wilma Weinkein got 1,464 votes, and Municipal Judge Robert Hershey got 1,419 votes.
Paul R. "Butch" Flentge received 482 votes to continue as alderman for Ward 3.
