PERRY COUNTY MAN PERISHES IN SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT

PERRYVILLE -- A Perry County man was killed Wednesday when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and it overturned.

Douglas R. Hawthorne, 18, was killed in the single vehicle accident that occurred at 8:15 Wednesday morning on Route E near Perryville.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that Hawthorne was traveling south on Route E when his right tires apparently went off the road. When he tried to pull the vehicle back on the road, he lost control of the car, the highway patrol reported.

The vehicle then traveled across the road where it hit an embankment and overturned, rolling at least one time and landing upright.

Hawthorne, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was transported by LifeBeat helicopter to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where he was pronounced dead.
