PERRYVILLE -- Twelve candidates filed for county elections on the first day to do so in Perry County.

So far, three of the five races will be contested, and only one Democrat has filed.

In the race for Eastern District Commissioner, incumbent Dennis E. Lohmann of Perryville will be opposed by Charles "Charlie" Franke of Uniontown, Edwin Stueve Jr. of Frohna, and Gary A. Lauck of Perryville.

In the Western District, incumbent Commissioner Michael E. Yamnitz of Perryville is being challenged by three other Perryville residents: Eldon "Sonny" Kaufmann, Wayne M. Terbrak, and Prince Hudson.

In the only other contested position, coroner Herbert E. Miller, a Democrat, is being challenged by Bob Young, a Republican.

Public administrator Jim Taylor and Sheriff Gary J. Schaaf, both of Perryville, filed to keep their respective positions.
