Kaminskey receives leadership award

Cammie G. Kaminskey of Jackson has been awarded a Missouri Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2003-2004 academic year.

It is a one-year award of $500 to be applied toward resident hall fees. It is given to Missouri students who have demonstrated leadership, scholarship and involvement. Students receiving it must have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Kaminskey is the daughter of Doug and Gina Kaminskey.

Several students receive regents' scholarships

Several area students have been awarded Regents' Scholarships by Southeast Missouri State University.

They are awarded to high school seniors who have achieved an ACT composite score of 27 or SAT score of 1220 and who had a high school GPA of 3.5 or graduate in the top 10 percent of their classes. The award covers incidental fees up to 32 hours per academic year for up to four consecutive years.

Honorees, their parents, schools and graduating years are:

Natalie Followell, daughter of Debbie Followell of Cape Girardeau and the late Brad Followell, Central High School 2003.

Matthew Stroder, son of Martin and Susan Stroder of Kelso, Kelly High School 2003.

Sarah Dubbs, daughter of Donna Dubbs of Jackson and the late George Dubbs, Jackson High School 2003.

Amanda Wozniak, daughter of Michael and Mary Ellen Wozniak of Cape Girardeau, Notre Dame Regional High School 2003.

Sarah Lichtenegger, daughter of James and Gail Lichtenegger of Jackson, Jackson High School 2003.

Jaimie Harmon, daughter of Susan and Michael Nolan of Cape Girardeau and James and Rebecca Harmon of Springfield, Mo., Central High School 2003.

Local students make SIU deans' list

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale has named 3,276 students to its fall semester dean's list. These students make up the top 15 percent of the undergraduates.

Southeast Missouri students on the list are: John Beardslee, sophomore, Altenburg; Robert Macklem, senior, Cape Girardeau; Robert Hrabik, senior, Oak Ridge; and Julia Heuring, freshman, Perryville, Mo.

Brandy Shy awarded governor's scholarship

Brandy Shy of Oran, Mo., is among a group of outstanding high school seniors who have been awarded Governor's Scholarships, the most prestigious academic honor awarded beginning freshmen accepted by Southeast Missouri State University.

Shy will be a 2003 graduate of Oran High School and is the daughter of Sam Shy of Oran and Kathy Shy of Jackson.

Missouri residents qualify through class rank and ACT or SAT scores.

Roth makes Cedarville University dean's list

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Julie Roth, daughter of Dennis and Joan Roth of Cape Girardeau, was named to Cedarville University's dean's list for the 2002 fall semester.

Roth is a junior majoring in communications.

Nell Holcomb receives activities grant

Nell Holcomb School District recently received one of 40 Friends of the Missouri State Archives Lewis and Clark Educational Activities Grants.

The $500 grant, titled "Our School: Located on a Pathway of History," was written by librarian Pat Nelson and will fund materials for the school library and a field trip to fourth-graders to explore sites related to Lewis and Clark in Missouri and Illinois, including a talk with a local expedition re-enactor. Fourth-grade curriculum emphasizes Missouri history.

Christain earns spot in next Who's Who

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- Leigh Christain, a senior in English and philosophy/religion at Truman State University in Kirksville, will be featured in the 2002-2003 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.

She is active in Sigma Tau Delta, English Honor Society and writing poetry for Windfall, the campus literary magazine.

She has received general honors at the university and is the daughter of Eric and Emma Wessel of Cape Girardeau.
