With the Cape Girardeau Public Library seeking a state trant to purchase a bookmobilel, the Southeast Missourian asked patrons of the library's monthly outreach service about their reading habits.
Thelbert Watson: "I like to read novels, non-fiction and some westerns. I get the large-print books which are easier to read. When I am finished reading my books, I trade with a couple of other people."
Lawrence Furhman: "I like westerns and fiction. I like a good mixture of books. I read about five or six books a month. Reading is important because the relaxation you get from it is as good as what you read about."
Grace Jones: "I like to read the large-print books. I read westerns, mysteries and books that are historical. The selection they have is good. I've taken seven or eight books at a time that I read in a month."
Inez Bartels: "I like the westerns and fiction. I like action to read. There's a pretty good selection of books. I can ask for the types of books I want or ask for books by the author. I hope more people use the service."
Betty Beckmann: "I read historical books and romance books. I read the regular-print books. I can't read the large-print books because I like to read in bed, and it's hard to hold them up. I read about 10 books a month."
Mary Helton: "I love the romantic novels. Sometimes I can read one in a day. They have a good selection, and I always have enough to read. I read more than I watch television, but I listen to background music while I read."
