The Southeast Missourian asked people what they like at the Southeast Missouri District Fair, which runs through Saturday at Arena Park.
Dortha Strack: "I like the horticulture and agriculture part of the fair and seeing the children bring their pride. Whether it's a pig, a pumpkin or anything and they win a ribbon, I enjoy seeing how happy they are. That makes me feel real good. I like to watch the judging."
Greg Adams: "I like all the rides and seeing the animals and the activities. I like the mule jumping and watching the buggies. I plan to come to the fair a few times and watch the FFA animal contests, especially the cow judging."
Jean Mahnken: "I like to see all the animals and the 4-H and FFA exhibits. I enjoy the rides and meeting people at the fair. I like to compare the cows and try to pick which one would win. It is a good way to learn about animals and see how people work with them."
Glenn Oldham: "I've been coming to the fair and working there for many years. I enjoy seeing the people who come with the fair who I haven't seen since the year before. I'm there every day, and I get around to see just about all of it."
Vanita Jones: "I like meeting friends and seeing the exhibits, especially the livestock. I was raised on the farm, and I love horses. I enjoy the 4-H exhibits, and I try to go the livestock auction. I like seeing what young people can do. I like the grandstand shows too."
Mack Estes: "I have been coming to the fair for over 35 years, and I see improvement as well as wholesome entertainment for the entire family. I enjoy the animals and especially the horse show. It's great for people who live in the city to see what farm life is like."
