The Southeast Missourian asked children why they are looking forward to going back to school after their summer vacation.

Brian Grim: "I'll be in eighth grade at St. Mary's. The summer started to get boring a couple of weeks ago. I think it will be good to get back to school. I like science. I think I will have to study more, but it should be good."

Paul Bratcher: "I want to go back to school to see my friends. School is fun, especially science. Vacation was getting boring. I'll be in sixth grade at Alma Schrader. I think it will be harder this year with more homework."

Rachel Riley: "The teachers teach us in a fun way. I'll be in fifth grade at Nell Holcomb. My friends that said it will be really nice. I know that we will go out on field trips. A friend of mine showed the books to me last year."

Chris Patterson: "I'll be in the eighth grade at Cape Central Junior High. I will be with a lot more students there than I am used to, but it will get easier. The summer was not long enough for me. I wish I could have gone water skiing more than I did."

Joy Johnson: "I will be in second grade at Washington School. I think I had enough summer vacation. I saw some of my friends, but a lot of them I didn't get to see. I think it will be fun at school. I like to make things in art."

Christina Hagen: "I'll be in fifth grade at Scott City Elementary. I like math and having substitute teachers. You get to help them teach. I wish the summer vacation was a little longer. I rode my bicycle and went swimming and read books."
