The Southeast Missourian asked people what is the craziest story they had heard in relation to the Flood of '93? Merlin Taber of Cape Girardeau: "The railroad tressle they thought was going to give way. They've hauled gravel and sandbags up there, but the tressle is just fine. The Southeast Missourian asked people what is the craziest story they had heard in relation to the Flood of '93?

Merlin Taber of Cape Girardeau: "The railroad tressle they thought was going to give way. They've hauled gravel and sandbags up there, but the tressle is just fine. It's hard to believe that anyone sandbagged for 20 hours straight. In all this heat you must be in good physical shape to do that."

John Niswonger of Cape Girardeau: "People go fishing and stuff in their backyard's: that's hard to believe. That's the only thing I heard. I don't know anyone who has been personally effected by the flood. I don't live near the river. Don't think about it much."

Penny Parrott of Cape Girardeau: "A farmer at McBride had 2,300 pigs and could only save 500, but the sheriff found 50 more, wow! Out of 2,300, that's alot to loose. All the rumors should stop. But, this flooding is helping to pull the midwest together."

Bill Guth of Cape Girardeau: "My son and I go to a club in St. Louis and the band, from Hollywood, CA, called to see if the concert was still on, because they had heard the arch was under water. They had heard so many different stories while still in California they thought the concert was cancelled. Then they watched CNN."

Calvin Garner of Cape Girardeau: "I heard we're going to have an earthquake next. It's going to cause the New Madrid fault to break. It's Armageddon. The river is reclaiming it's land, unjustly taken from it by man. It has a mind of it's own."

John Randol of Jackson: "My sister's husband told her that a pig farmer had 7 hours to get all his pigs off the farm, but didn't. Because they had rabies, and now can collect the insurance on his drowned pigs. Animal rights activists are after him."
