The Southeast Missourian asked people their views on President Clinton's symbolic humanitarian effort to airlift food and medicine into troubled Bosnia.
Etson Steele said, "They ought to militarily intervene and basically put a foot down. There are a whole lot of things wrong there. Not only medical but ethical. Human rights are wrong all over the world. We need to step in and end it so there can be peace."
Gail Dame said, "I understand the importance of helping people in need but right now we need to focus on the problems at home. Clinton needs to utilize our tax dollars to get America back on its feet and organized. We need to be headed in the right direction."
Larry Keller said, "I don't like the involvement over in Bosnia. I think we have enough problems here in Cape Girardeau let alone the rest of America. I don't agree with what he is doing at all. Americans should be our first priority then we can help others."
Stephanie Howard said, "I think we should look at problems here in the United States. I know they have problems over in Bosnia but we have problems here at home too. President Clinton needs to look at them. We could be spending that money on the homeless."
Mary Haynes said, "I think we are helping them with the aid. Before Clinton it seemed there was no help getting to them. I think he is doing real good. I think we need a little military aid to help them solve their problems a little quicker."
Carson Pitman III said, "Clinton needs to take a more active program in what is happening in our economy and with the American people. It's good to help others. That's what God wants us to do. But he's just meddling around and touching the tip of the iceberg."
