President Clinton tackled several major problems during his first few days in office. The Southeast Missourian asked people how they thought President Clinton handled himself and those issues.

Eric Cohoon: "I feel Bill Clinton is faced with many problems and the sooner he gets started correcting those problems the better off he will be and we will all be. He should not be criticized for tackling major issues right now. People put him in office looking for change."

Pat Reagan-Woodard: "I think our President Clinton has proved himself to be a leader already, the kind of leader we were looking for. He's very human. Even the mistakes he has made already seem to be within the honest, direct approach I wanted out of the president."

James Brown: "I think he should slow down and catch up with his feet. He's too anxious and is jumping to conclusions and doesn't know what's going on. He shouldn't even be in office. He's trying to solve a 50-year problem in two or three days and you can't do that."

Howard Overbeck Jr.: "He might get something done on these issues but he won't be able to get them all done overnight. A lot of them will just take time. I don't think President Clinton will burn out and I don't think people will forget his first week in office."

Michael Stites: "Only a few have done a great job in the first 100 days, Johnson and FDR, and they had a democratic Congress to work with. He should have focused on things he had promised like the economy, production of jobs and middle income tax breaks, not gays in the military."

Nancy Richards: "I believe in a fast-moving administration. I think people had gotten so tired of the politics in the past they were ready for a fast change. The people that elected him really expected this fast response from President Clinton and they are getting it."
