The patrol identified the single fatality as Donnie Grubb, 22, of Cape Girardeau.

The patrol said Grubb lost control of his eastbound vehicle as he crested a hill about 8 p.m. Sunday. He was broadsided by the pickup, splitting his car in half.

The vehicle's rear section then collided with a pickup driven by Howard Payne, 30, of Malden. Payne wasn't injured.
