The Missouri State Highway Patrol is accepting applications until Monday for a recruit class scheduled to begin July 1.

The patrol is placing special emphasis on recruiting qualified women and minorities.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and Missouri residents, at least 21 and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Other requirements include:

-- Willingness to live anywhere in the state.

-- No prior convictions of a felony or any crime involving moral turpitude, or have a pending indictment.

-- No brands or tattoos on the head, neck or hands, nor below the upper 6-inch portion of the arm.

The selection process is a multi-phase testing procedure that includes reading comprehension, writing skills, police attitudinal factors test, physical skills assessment, polygraph examination, comprehensive background investigation/review and an oral interview.

Applicants selected for recruit training receive six months of intensive academic and rigorous physical training at the patrol academy in Jefferson City.

Applications may be made at the Missouri State Highway Patrol General Headquarters, 1510 E. Elm St., Jefferson City or at regional troop or troop satellite headquarters.
