Patrol: Almost 100 pounds of marijuana found in traffic stop

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- Authorities said a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of nearly 100 pounds of marijuana Monday, the Standard Democrat reported. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 11 a.m. Monday, a trooper stopped a vehicle driven by Shontai E. Charity, 27, of Houston, who was traveling northbound on Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County, for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, consent to search the vehicle was requested and granted. A dog sniffed for drugs outside the vehicle and alerted troopers to something in the rear area of the vehicle. The patrol said a search revealed three large duffel bags containing four large bundles of processed marijuana. The total weight of the marijuana was 91 pounds. Charity was arrested on suspicion of felony drug trafficking.
