Darren Pannier, a native of Cape Girardeau, has taken on a new role as athletic director for State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Mo.
Pannier, a 1986 graduate of Central High School, already teaches health and physical education at State Fair and serves as women's head volleyball coach and women's assistant basketball coach.
Pannier said he is pleased he will not have to give up coaching or teaching duties with his new responsibilities.
He knows the job will entail more hours, but he doesn't mind. Pannier said he was a believer in hard work. "My dad installed the work ethic in me," he said.
Pannier is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Pannier of Cape Girardeau.
"My wife, Sara, knows the new job will mean being away from home more, but she's very understanding about it," said Pannier.
Pannier graduated from Central Methodist College at Fayette, Mo., with a degree in physical education and health and completed his master's degree in education with an emphasis in sports management and sports administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
He worked as a student recruiter and men's assistant basketball coach and head freshman and junior varsity coach at CMC while pursuing his master's degree Mizzou. He taught at Sedalia Middle School and was an assistant girls basketball coach there before moving to State Fair.
Meanwhile, Darren's brother, Darryl Pannier, has taken over as principal of Fayette High School.
Pannier had served as principal of Fayette's Clark Middle School since 1997.
Pannier accepted the principal job at Fayette when Rob Anderson moved from that position to curriculum director and A+ coordinator in the school district.
Pannier assumed duties as principal at the high school last fall. Pannier has been in the district 11 years -- seven as a teacher and four as principal.
Pannier, a 1982 graduate of University High School in Cape Girardeau, has a bachelor degree in education from Central Methodist College, a master's degree in athletic administration from the University of Missouri and a specialist degree with certification in principalship and superintendency from the University of Missouri.
