JERUSALEM -- A Palestinian man fixing a satellite dish on his roof was shot and killed in the Gaza Strip Saturday, Palestinians said. In the West Bank, Israeli troops tracked down and killed a Palestinian who took part in a deadly attack on a Jewish settlement, the army said.

Late Saturday, dozens of Jewish settlers rioted in the West Bank town of Hebron in response to the previous day's attack at the nearby Kiryat Arba settlement.

Protesters set a wrecked car on fire and threw objects at Palestinians, Israeli police spokesman Rafi Yaffe and witnesses said. No Palestinians were injured and police soon broke up the demonstration, Yaffe said.

Earlier in the day soldiers pursued, then killed a Palestinian who allegedly participated in the shooting at an illegal outpost on the outskirts of Kiryat Arba.

In the attack, the Palestinian militants armed with an M-16 rifle and a pistol knocked on the door of the house Friday night, then shot and killed a man who answered the door, the army said. A 4-year-old girl and two men inside the house were wounded before a guest at the home shot and killed one of the militants, who was masked.

The second militant fled and troops began a manhunt for him, killing him early Saturday, the army said.

The home that was attacked was an illegal outpost called "Hill 26," and thus did not have a fence around it or proper security like nearby Kiryat Arba, military officials said on condition of anonymity. However, Kiryat Arba Mayor Zvi Katzover said the outpost was within settlement limits.

The army has dismantled several illegal outposts that Jewish settlers have set up around the West Bank, saying they should not be there and are extremely difficult to defend against Palestinian attacks.

The militant group Hamas took responsibility for Friday's attack, saying it came in response to Israeli military operations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, areas Palestinians want for a state.

Israel has occupied seven of the eight Palestinian towns in the West Bank in recent months in response to attacks, imposing curfews that confine Palestinians to their homes for days at a time and demolishing houses of suspected militants.

Following a November attack in Hebron in which 12 Israeli security forces were killed, Israeli forces took control of the entire city. The Israelis said they would demolish Palestinian homes to widen a corridor between the Jewish settlements in the area, but so far that has not happened.
