William H. Kuss is preparing to go before the Cape Girardeau Planning and Zoning Commission in regard to a seven-acre tract stretching from Gordonville Road to Route K.
"We're in the process of leveling the property in preparations for a commercial zoning," said Kuss, one of the owners of Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel. "We've been turned down twice in our request to build a funeral home on the property."
Kuss said he had several good prospects for "large, retail business," on the property. Kuss said the Kuss family abandoned the idea of a funeral chapel on the property when a zoning request was rejected a second time in May 1989.
Strong opposition from neighborhood residents resulted in rejection of the funeral home. Also cited were concerns about possible traffic problems resulting from funeral processions on Route K.
