One of the best things about living in a small town are the gatherings -- Christmas parties, community picnics and Fourth of July celebrations -- where just about everyone knows everyone.
On Aug. 7, Gordonville residents had the opportunity to participate in one of these old-time fun times at the Gordonville Area Volunteer Fire Department's annual picnic.
The picnic, sponsored by the 20-member Gordonville Area Volunteer Fire Department Booster Club, brought together over 1,000 people from throughout the area for a day of food, fun and sun.
This year's picnic, which ran from 10 a.m. to midnight, featured a mud race, a dunking booth, concessions, a horseshoe tournament and other games along with a live band.
The event not only brought area residents together, but provided some much needed funding for the fire department.
Proceeds from the annual picnic are placed in the coffers with those from other fundraisers held throughout the year, such as chili suppers, to fund the costs of training and equipment repair and replacement.
