During the next week many Americans will focus their attention on the Statue of Liberty, which has welcomed immigrants through the New York harbor for 100 years. After being vandalized, Cape Girardeau's replica of the Statue of Liberty at Freedom Corner, Broadway and North West End Boulevard, was restored by Otto Dingeldein's metalsmith shop. On Page 6 of today's Southeast Missourian, Dingeldein discusses his immigration to America, his first thoughts of this country, and his understanding of liberty and freedom since becoming a citizen in 1952.
