Other tornadoes in Missouri and Kansas reported

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Several tornadoes were reported in Missouri and Kansas as a storm system with strong winds and large hail moved across the region on Tuesday, two days after tornadoes extensively damaged several communities in both states.

The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for more than 30 counties Tuesday afternoon and into the evening as the storms made their eastward trek from the southeast Kansas border.

In the town of De Soto in Jefferson County, a junior high school gymnasium was flattened, its bricks blown into the street. KMOV-TV in St. Louis reported that a coach and students rode out the storm in a sub-basement and were evacuated safely.

No injuries were reported.

In Franklin County, Interstate 44 near St. Clair was closed temporarily when a nearby creek flooded and filled both lanes of highway. Sheriff's Det.Travis Blankenship told KMOV-TV that stumps and logs were floating down the interstate.

Some residents of Richwoods in Washington County were forced to evacuate when high water led to a propane tank leak.

Crawford County had several reports of funnel clouds, including one that touched down on the ground in Leasburg briefly, said Charles Witt, emergency management director.
