The Osage Community Centre has opened as a place where Cape Girardeau residents without power can stay warm. The center opened as a city-designated "warming center" at 7:45 a.m.
The Salvation Army at 701 Good Hope St. will open as a warming center at 8:15 a.m., the Cape Girardeau Fire Department reports.
The fire department is also urging people to stay off the roads, saying they've glazed over and black ice is a hazard.
The Southeast Missouri Red Cross has already opened three warming centers in the Jackson area at Crossroads Church, the Bavarian Halle near Fruitland and at Immaculate Conception School.
