SCOTT CITY --A member of the Scott City Board of Education unexpectedly resigned from his position last month.
The school board accepted the resignation at last week's meeting.
"I decided there weren't enough hours in the day," Tom Anderson said, adding that he wanted to devote more time to his work and family.
Anderson, who recently became superintendent of Oran Schools, said his new job requires more time than he originally expected.
"I felt like I was going when I should be coming," he said.
Anderson was elected to a three-year term on the school board in April.
The board is now accepting applications for its vacancy. Only two people have mentioned interest in the seat. One new member will be appointed for the remainder of the year.
An election will be held in April to fill the unexpired term, said Gale Dale, board president.
Debbi Miller and Robert "Pete" Wadlington are interested in filling the vacant seat.
Miller sought Anderson's seat in the April general election. She was defeated by a 33-vote margin.
Wadlington is a former member of the board. He last held a seat in 1991 and served three terms on the board.
To file an application, you must be 24 years old, a citizen of the United States and have lived in the school district for one year.
