ORAN, Mo. -- An Oran man has been charged with two counts of felony child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said in a release Thursday.
Cameron M. Gettings, 21, was being held in the Scott County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
According to the release, the Scott County 911 Center received a call Wednesday afternoon reporting that a spider bit a 2-year-old boy. Medical personnel who responded to a residence on Railroad Street determined his injuries were inconsistent with a spider bite. The child's right eye had swollen shut and it appeared he had been struck with an object. A sheriff's office investigator questioned the mother and Gettings about the child's injury. Gettings reportedly admitted to striking the child with his fist because he was being loud and jumping on the bed. The child was treated at a Cape Girardeau hospital and released to a relative.
