Oran man charged with assault

ORAN, Mo. -- An Oran man is in custody after being charged with domestic assault.

Scott County sheriff's deputies responded to a call about 3:15 a.m. today after receiving a call about a domestic assault occurring at a home in Morley, Missouri.

When officers arrived they found the victim with apparent injuries. A witness heard the altercation and said he saw a man flee the residence. He then found the victim unconscious.

Officers found the suspect, Bill Abernathy Jr., 33, at his residence on Highway 77 and took him into custody without further incident.

Abernathy was charged with felony second-degree domestic assault and remains in custody at the Scott County Jail. The court has set bond at $2,500 cash only.
