Twenty years ago, Oran, Missouri, Chamber of Commerce member Ed Evans said he would start a car show to help raise money for the organization.
But, he specified with a laugh, "Twenty years was all they got."
Saturday marks that milestone for Evans, who is finalizing his last show.
"I just decided after 20 years, it's time to give someone else a shot at it," he said. "I'm not getting any younger."
The annual event has grown over time. Evans said the first year, he thought the show would have five or six classes for judging vehicles. This year, there are 47.
He estimated about 200 cars have registered for the show every year, and about 1,000 visitors have stopped by.
The classes vary, from antiques to modified trucks, stock trucks, modified 4x4s, Corvettes, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, foreign cars and more.
Evans said three trophies are awarded for each class, as well as trophies for specialty sections such as best of show and best engine.
There's a $20 entry fee for vehicles, but spectator admission is free.
Check-in is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tilles Memorial City Park in Oran, with awards being given to winners at 4 p.m.
Concessions will be available throughout the day.
In addition to checking out some cool cars, visitors will have a variety of events to participate in throughout the day, Evans said. From the engine blow-up car, where people guess how long it takes an engine to explode by weighing down the accelerator, to a muffler rackoff contest, where "you rev your engines to see who has the best pipes," Evans explained, to a burn-out pit for those interested in tearing up some tires, the show will be busy.
Evans said every year is different, but it's always a good time.
The money raised goes back to the chamber of commerce to help fund other events throughout the year.
