Openings remain for two community Internet training classes scheduled in December.
The classes are co-sponsored by the Southeast Missourian and Southeast Missouri State University, and taught by members of the SEMissourian.com Web staff.
An intermediate Internet class will be offered Thursday, Dec. 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. The intermediate class covers such topics as e-mail, chat, downloading and installing programs in more detail. All participants receive a free e-mail account.
Participants will have their own computer with high-speed Internet access for the hands-on session. The class will be held at Dempster Hall on the university campus.
In addition, a beginning Internet class will be sponsored Thursday, Dec. 16 from 1-3 p.m. This class provides a broad introduction to the Internet, with tips on surfing and how to use a browser.
The sessions fill up quickly so early registration is encouraged.
Since the classes began in 1997, more than 1,000 people from throughout the region have received Internet training through the program. Participants have ranged in age from 8 to 94.
A number of informational handouts are distributed at both sessions. Door prizes will also be awarded.
Cost is $20 for either the beginning or intermediate class, and payment is required prior to registration. The cost is $10 for newspaper subscribers. New subscribers can pay $13.50 for one month and receive the class free.
An admission ticket and parking pass will be issued upon payment. Tickets are transferable to another individual, but nonrefundable.
Interested persons can call the Southeast Missouri at 335-6611, ext. 151, and ask for Sharon Rogers. Registration is limited to 38 individuals per session.
