Leadership Cape '96, a community leadership program developed by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, will hold its first session Feb. 1.
The program, designed to provide information about Cape Girardeau and the surrounding area and to stimulate and increase the level of commitment and participation in the community, will consist of seven sessions held every Thursday morning.
"We still have some openings for the 1996 class," said Tim Hahn, chairman of the Chamber's Leadership Development Committee. "We try to have a class of about 25 people."
Applicants are not required to be members of the chamber.
Session formats vary, but each includes a continental breakfast, panel discussions, field trips and speakers. Each session starts about 7:30 a.m. and will conclude by 12:30 p.m.
The first class on the docket will include tours of city and county offices, focusing on city and county development and planning.
Other programs will include programs on health and community wellness, public services of the city, county and state, education, legal and law enforcement, economic development and media.
"The leadership program is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in taking a more active role in the community," said Hahn. "There is no age limit, but the class size will be limited to 25 to allow for greater participation and involvement."
Anyone interested in being a participant in Leadership Cape '96 may obtain applications at the Chamber office, 601 N. Kingshighway.
Tuition is $225 and covers all expenses for meals, notebooks, handouts and all other costs incidental to operating the program.
Additional information is available by contacting the Chamber of Commerce office at 335-3312.
