Members of the Cape Girardeau fire and police departments work the scene of a house fire Thursday night at 1306 Good Hope St. Assistant chief Mark Hasheider of the Cape Girardeau Fire Department said smoke was coming from the basement, first and second floors when firefighters arrived, and one person was outside, yelling at someone inside to get out of the house. The person inside, who had been in the basement, got out via the basement stairwell with help from firefighters and was taken to a hospital by Cape County Private Ambulance, Hasheider said. The cause and origin of the fire -- which was extinguished quickly -- were under investigation, he said.
