CATRON, Mo. -- One is dead and another in custody following a shooting near Catron in Stoddard County early Saturday.

Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner said the shooting happened shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday. He confirmed that one person is dead and a "person of interest" was in custody but that no charges had been filed as of 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The victim, 20-year-old Philip Goforth, reportedly died from a single gunshot wound.

The name of the suspect has not yet been released.

Hefner said the Major Case Squad was activated and is using the Bernie Police Department as a command center.
