DEXTER, Mo. -- One person is dead and another is hospitalized following a motorcycle wreck on U.S. 60 just east of the One Mile Road overpass Monday evening, the Daily Statesman newspaper reported.
The wreck occurred shortly after 6 p.m. The Daily Statesman reported on its Facebook page Tuesday afternoon that the woman killed was Sharon Kirby of Matthews, Mo. Her husband, James Kirby, was still in critical condition.
An Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter airlifted the victims from the scene of the accident to a Cape Girardeau medical facility, where Sharon Kirby later died of her injuries.
No details were available regarding what caused the crash. Police indicated that names and circumstances surrounding the incident would be available Tuesday afternoon, but no crash details had been posted on the Daily Statesman website at 4 p.m.
The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the accident.
