The Southeast Missourian asked people what they thought about last week's vote that gave Republican Party control of Congress after 40 years.
David Allgeier: "I don't think it's going to make very much difference. If you change politics or change everybody's color from blue to green, I think it would be the same as it was 10 years ago plus or minus. The same gridlocks are going to happen no matter who is in power. The only way I see to change it is to have term limits in Congress."
Gary Stroder: "I think the people are trying to tell Clinton that they don't like what he's doing with our country, and they want a change. With a Republican-controlled Congress, we have some control so we can stop some things that he is doing wrong."
Jayne Ervin: "I think it's about time it happened. I think our country has been going the liberal direction, so this is a good indication that it is going back to conservative. People realized that we need to get our ducks back in a row. I think the White House will have to cooperate with Congress and that it's a good move for our country. I don't believe Bill Clinton will be re-elected."
Chrys Martin: "After all the negative campaigning this year, I'm surprised that anyone was elected to office. It has gotten too ridiculous. I wish everyone would go independent in running for office and just be on their own platform, not a party platform. I think the Democrats still will not work with the Republicans and everything will be slowed down."
