The Southeast Missourian asked, "What you think about the proposed site for the new Federal Building downtown?"

"I think they should knock down the Hotel Marquette and put it right there across from the current building. They have an existing building there they could refurbish."

"Its an old question that happens every time the government wants to build something. Usually the government ends up paying people a lot of money. Unless the people are willing to move out, I don't think its right."

I think they probably have a lot of choices that wouldn't interfere with some of the historic aspects of the city. I don't see that the block they are looking at is a better site than a block that doesn't contain any historic homes on it."

"I think it's a good idea. It wouldn't bother me. I guess you just have to figure out whether the people who own the property are going to let them do it. Anything to put money into the community. People in the building trades probably need the work."

"I think the government spends too much money on things already, and I don't think they need a new federal building. The politicians need to find something better to do with our money anyway."
