This week the Southeast Missourian asked, "How do you feel about the rash of burglaries against the elderly?"
Vera Burger, New Hamburg
"I just think it's terrible. I wish they would catch them. I don't know what they could do to protect them...more security...more lights and all that...I just don't know. Checking on your neighbors."
Martha Tatum, Charleston
"They need more security and to have everything updated. They need to try to find out who it is as fast as they can."
Dewey Christian, Cape Girardeau
"I think we need stronger laws and stronger enforcement of laws. It's hard for them (the elderly) to help themselves the way the laws will protect them (criminals)."
Dolores Finch, Cape Girardeau
"It scares me because I'm one of those older citizens. Get a gun because they understand that. I know what area it is and I know some of them (people) down there and they end up in prison. The woman that works for me she knows a lot of them...they're teen-agers. They've got to be stopped."
Bonnie Gerecke, Cape Girardeau
"I think it's very frightening for everyone involved and I think that the best thing they can do is to do what the police have asked and make sure that their doors are locked and have plenty of lighting. Try to work together to find whoever it is...the Neighborhood Watch system."
