This week the Southeast Missourian asked, "What do you think of the possibility that the Cape Girardeau Police Department may discontinue its motorcycle patrol units?

John Cobb, Cape Girardeau

"I feel that motorcycles are very hard to see under normal driving conditions and in emergency situations where they will be driving at a higher rate of speed I think that the possibility of a serious accident is going to be much greater. On the other hand, I feel like they are very useful when traffic is highly congested...to weave in and out of traffic, so it kind of goes both ways. I think the safety of the officers should be of the utmost concern."

Matt Boyer, Cape Girardeau

"I think it could be good in terms of cost-cutting measurements, but in terms of safety for the public it might be bad because there wouldn't be that many officers out on the street."

Rodney, Weir, Cape Girardeau

"I think if they have guys that want to be out on them then that's fine. I think that they should have them if they want them."

Marty Metheny, Cape Girardeau

"I guess it depends on the officers and how they feel about the motorcycles. Really, I guess it depends on what the officers think . I mean, if they like to drive the motorcycles they have. The benefit is being places a whole lot easier than cars."

Frankie Owens, Benton

"I think they should keep it. They can go places and get into traffic faster than cars can."
