The Southeast Missourian asked people how they felt about the U.S. military action in Iraq.

Fred Janzow, Cape Girardeau: "I'm concerned about innocent citizens being killed. I realize also that Saddam Hussein is an enemy who needs to be contained. He has defied the world legal system. I think violence is just about the only thing he understands."

Chug Little, Chaffee: "I think we should have taken care of business a long time ago. Now I have a boy in the military at Fort Campbell, and he is on alert right now. But if we have to do it, we have to. I would like us to take care of it this time."

Wes Spradling, Cape Girardeau: "I think the action is necessary, but that the timing is quite unfortunate, as far as the president's domestic affairs go. It should have taken place quite a while back."

Dawn Shipman, Cape Girardeau: "I think they should have done it a long time ago. It's necessary, but I don't think it's political with the timing of it as far as President Clinton is concerned. I think Saddam is going to do what he does regardless of the time of the year."

Andru Emmons, Cape Girardeau: "I feel if they are going to go over there, they should finish the job this time. I support what we are doing now. Somebody has to do it. Otherwise, anybody can come up with the chemical warfare, and it's the start of World War III, and we don't want that."
