This week the Southeast Missourian asked, "What was your favorite Halloween costume when you were a child?"
Jeri McNeeley, Cape Girardeau
"I hated Halloween as a kid because I felt like I was forced to go around begging and I hated it. One time my mom made me this great costume that was like the lion on the 'Wizard of Oz.' She sewed on all of these little layers of stuff to make the hair and the mane. It was a great costume."
John Steiger, Cape Girardeau
"When I was a kid we used grocery bags and cut for the head and arms and made designs on them."
Dave Earl, Cape Girardeau
"Paper sacks were about all we had. We just used to be a cowboy. That was about the big thing. We really didn't dress up, I mean we just went door to door with a bag and that was about it."
Ann Knupp, Oran
"A gypsy I guess. I got to dress up in mom's clothes."
Diane Gregg, Cape Girardeau
"The headless man. I made it myself. My dad's suit coat and out of cardboard with a paper hat that fit over my head and rested on my shoulders. I made little eyes in there to see out."
