This week the Southeast Missourian asked, "Why do you own a pet?"
Melanie Clubb, Cape Girardeau
"Well, I've got four dogs, a cat and two parakeets. They just kind of complete the family circle."
Julie Farrow, Cape Girardeau
"I own a bunch of them. We have two boxers and we're a foster family for Boxer rescue. Just the companionship. Boxers are real athletic so we enjoy taking them out to the park and playing with them."
Mike Kepner, Cape Girardeau
"Boody's a bull mastiff. We own a chow and three cats. They are like our children. We get a lot of enjoyment out of them. They're family members. We treat our animals like children."
Karen Honaas, Cape Girardeau
"Well, mostly we love animals and also to teach my children responsibility. We've got three dogs, twelve cats, two steers, two goats, two rabbits, a mouse, a pig, ducks and geese."
Dan Finch, Cape Girardeau
"We have three mutts. Two from the Humane Society. One we found on Highway 177. And we have these mutts for the love and affection that they give us more so than we can give them."
