CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The city's Historic Preservation Commission is promoting a new program, "Vanishing Missouri," that seeks old photos for publication in the state's official reference manual.
Secretary of State Roy Blunt has asked Missouri residents to submit pre-1940s photographs for publication in the "Official Manual of the State of Missouri."
Winners of the photo contest will receive a copy of the 1991-92 Official Manual, and all photos will be added to the permanent collection of the Missouri State Archives.
"The Cape Girardeau and Southeast Missouri area is an important and significant part of the state," said Mary Foote, chairman of the Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission.
"Your contribution can enhance the state's appreciation of our heritage. Together we can increase the awareness of our contribution to the growth and economy of Missouri.
"Please help perpetuate our cultural heritage," Foote added. "Get out your scrapbooks and be a part of history."
The deadline for the contest is Friday. To obtain an entry form, or for more information on the program, contact Foote at 334-6809, or Blunt's office at 751-2379.
