Joe Thompson, president, and Paul Hoffmann, youth club chairman, of the Jackson Evening Optimist Club, presented a check for $1,000 to Terry Tuschhoff, an adviser of the Jackson Optimist Octagon Club.
The presentation was made at the group's last meeting before the Octagon Club's trip to Orlando, Fla., to attend the Junior Optimist Octagon International Convention from July 4 through 7.
Twenty-three members and advisers attended this year's convention, making it the largest group Jackson has ever sent in the organization's nine-year history.
The Jackson Optimist Octagon Club is involved in organizing dances for sixth- and seventh-grade students, adopt-a-highway litter control and supporting the Jackson Ministerial Alliance food pantry.
The group assists the Jackson Evening Optimist Club, its sponsoring club, with the Homecomers food sales and Christmas tree sales. The group also assists the Jackson Noon Optimist Club with Kid's Day in the Park and harvest festival activities.
