SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missourians have contributed $1 million more to Democrat Barack Obama's presidential campaign than to Republican John McCain's.

An analysis of federal campaign finance figures by the Springfield News-Leader shows Obama has raised $2.9 million in Missouri and McCain has brought in $1.9 million.

But the difference may be partially due to different fundraising approaches.

Obama is not using the public financing system for his campaign, so he has to raise more money himself.

McCain has accepted $84 million in public financing and the spending limits that go with it. So McCain has geared his fundraising more toward helping the Republican National Committee in its get-out-the-vote efforts.
