The 1994 graduates of Oak Ridge schools exceeded state and national averages on the ACT exams.
The ACT college entrance exam measures students' academic preparation in the areas of English, mathematics, reading and science. It also yields a composite score of all the subtests.
The scores have a numerical range from 1 to 36. The national average of the composite scores was 20.8. The overall Missouri average was 21.2. The Oak Ridge average on all the subtests was 24.
In the specific subtests, Oak Ridge students scored as much as four points more than the national average. In English, the national average was 20.3, the state average was 20.7 and the Oak Ridge average was 24.3.
In mathematics, the national average was 20.2, the state average was also 20.2, and the Oak Ridge average was 22.3. In reading, the national average was 21.2, the state average was 21.8, and the Oak Ridge average was 25.2. In science, the national average was 20.9, the state average was 21.3, and the Oak Ridge students had an average of 24.
Oak Ridge students also scored above the state averages in most areas of the Missouri Mastery and Achievement Tests in grades two through 10. Of 34 possible subtest areas in reading and language arts, mathematics, science and social studies, Oak Ridge students scored above the state average in 26 areas.
